Muslims in the Media
Reading yesterdays Telegraph a headline caught my eye.
Muslim teen's 'plot to kill'
You can actually read the story here.

I was caught by this story because it got me wondering about the media scaremongering anti-Muslim campaign going on in this country.
The fact that the kid is Muslim has really nothing to do with what she did. The use of the word (capitalised in the story by the way) is a shameless ploy to further the anti-Muslim feeling in the country and I think it is about time that a stop was put to it.
The use of the word is also a ploy to get people to read the story. I understand that that is the point of a headline but this goes on too much in our media! Muslim did this, Muslim did that.
If this girl was a Sydney born Presbyterian girl called Lisa would the headline of read.
“CHRISTIAN TEEN’S PLOT TO KILL?”
I think not. It would simply read “TEEN’S PLOT TO KILL” as it should.
I am not a Muslim by the way. I am your average Australian Anglican. It’s about time the media stopped trying to fuel hatred.
It is disgusting.

Once there is a terror attack on home soil, by a home-grown Muslim terrorist, perhaps you'll change your tune and be less 'disgusted' with this scaremongering and labelling.
Then again, maybe not. There'll always be those who make excuses for people.
You miss the point. This was not making excuses for anyone or their behaviour.
This was about how this person being muslim is irrelevant to the story.
Then again it sells papers and keeps xenophobes afraid I guess.
