Mixed Bag

Yes, I know. I am a lazy bastard. Eight days and nothing from my mind. I could offers excuses but that second sentence is the truth and I’ll stick with that.

I can’t really decide on a topic to write about. Should I write about how the Federal Labour Party has been a sad pathetic thing for the last ten years? Seriously how does Johny Howard keep lying and misleading the Australian public yet still remain in office and win elections? I swung to the liberals in the election before last and then swung back because I honestly thought Costello would be taking the helm. I have only voted Liberal once in my life but seriously will be doing it again unless Labour get rid of Beazley and Crean and or actually come up with some policies.

Should I write about politics on forums amusing the shit out of me? There is always someone who thinks they own the forum, there is always some moderator who thinks they are king shit and patrols the boards with an iron fist, then there is the bickering and flaming, oh and it is all too amusing. Found a forum over at http://www.theprojectlives.com/ which seems to be full of adults with brains and where flaming is done in good fun like it should be. These kids at some of the other places I frequent take things just a tad too seriously.

Should I write a wrestling bit? God I can’t believe how negative everyone is being toward this Wrestlemania. In The Armchair Bookers Tackle Wrestlemania I mentioned everyone would hate on it because they have been doing it for the past couple of mania’s but this one is really getting served. Personally I think the card is shaping up all right and anyone who thinks The Hitman isn’t going to make an appearance is so naive as to border on being stupid. No he won’t wrestle or get involved in a match but he’ll be strolling on down to thank his fans or I am not The Cardinal.

Should I write about how the Allied forces will never be able to pull out of Iraq because once they do the country will sink so fast into Civil War, the Speed in which The Titanic went down will be pedestrian?

Should I talk about the AWB fiasco?

I don’t think I’ll write about any of it, since at this point in time I am at work I am going to go do some.

Kuala Lumpur Vs Singapore

No one likes diary style Blogs right?

A good blog has strong opinions. In light of this and coupled with my burning desire to write about my holiday I present to you Kuala Lumpur Vs Singapore.

My opinion on which city offers a better holiday and why. I’ll break it down into categories, give a score for each category and then end with my final opinion

FIRST IMPRESSION: The first thing I noticed when I walked out of the airport in KL was the smell of Gudang Garam (sp?) cigarettes and I liked it. The first thing I noticed when I walked out of the airport in Singapore was how clean the area was. Clean to the point of Sterility. I also liked it. However the local cab drivers smoking their traditional cigarettes beats the hospital like cleanliness of Singapore.

KL gets one point

AMBIENCE: Singapore is a beautiful city with great ambience, however it didn’t really feel too different from a western city, KL is a bustling place and seems somewhat chaotic but is actually well organised. You know you’re in Asia when you’re in KL. Both cities were very clean, KL suprisingly so. KL gets the ambience point

It is 2 and 0

SHOPPING: No contest here. KL shits all over Singapore on the shopping front. From the street markets to the big shopping centres. KL is at least one-third the price of Singapore and also has more variety.

3 and 0

FOOD: For a place that spruiks itself as a culinary delight I was somewhat disappointed by the food in Singapore. Don’t get me wrong it was good but was it better than that of KL? Both cities had the good and bad. I am going to give half a point each.

WOMEN: Those who know me are aware that I have a thing for Chinese woman, this fact along with Malaysia’s being mainly Muslim and hence covered gives Singapore the clear cut victory in the perving stakes.

3.5 plays 1.5

GETTING AROUND: Both cities have efficient public transport systems. At times the trains can be confusing in KL but the cabs are so cheap it doesn’t really matter. I have to give half a point to each city again.

THINGS TO DO: Singapore is very oriented toward tourism nowadays and hence has more touristy type things to do within the city. I have to give it the point here based on a tourism point of view. While there are just as many if not more things to do in KL, you have to search a bit to find them.

PEOPLE: Singaporeans seem a bit superficial and think that money is the be all and end all of life. The locals as a whole seemed indifferent to the tourists (this changed in the poorer areas) and the customer service staff I encountered seemed to all want to be somewhere else and not eager to serve the customer.

In KL it was the opposite, locals were happy to talk to you and answer questions. Customer Service staff were generally nice and willing to help you.

FINAL RESULT: KL 5 Singapore 3

FINAL THOUGHT: You may get the impression that I didn’t think too much of Singapore and you may be right. Don’t get me wrong it was a nice place and I enjoyed my stay there. It just seems to me that they are trying to be an ultra modern western type city and on the surface it would appear they are succeeding but when you look beneath the surface and get off the tourist path and speak to the locals (or when the ever talented multi lingual Linda does) you will find that everyone isn’t as happy as you’d think. It is a pretty city and there is lots of stuff to do. It just seems a very superficial and fake place. It also seems Singapore clings to its past just a little too much. Within minutes of being in the city alarms were going off citywide and the radio was taken over by the emergency system. It was a bomb drill! Um world war 2 ended fifty years ago peoples.

Again I reiterate I am not hating on Singapore here, I enjoyed it despite paying ten dollars for a coke at the hotel. I just enjoyed Kuala Lumpur a lot better. The city was real, the people were real and it was a hell of a lot cheaper. I will go back to KL in a flash but do not see myself returning to Singapore unless it is a stop over.

If you are a first time traveller to Asia and just want a little taste I would strongly suggest KL over Singapore. The people are nicer, it is cheaper and it remembers that it is an asian city and doesn't try to be anything else

I could write more and more on the subject and probably will but that will do for today

RU486

Pro Life? Pro Choice? Looking for an abortion debate because you seen the title?

Sorry to disappoint but this post isn't about what the drug does to a foetus so put them knives away.

This isn't even about the merits of the drug. I don't know enough to comment on that one.

This is about the power of Tony Abbott to single handedly make the decision on whether or not the drug should be made available. Now I have nothing against Mr abbott. I was opposed to the power over this drug being handed to a politician back in 1996 and am glad to see that it has been handed back to the TGA where it should always have been. Well I will be glad once it gets passed by the lower house, which it should.

Let medical authorities decide whether it should be available on medical grounds and keep politics out of it.

Love Books a Holiday

Yours truly is going on a holiday. I fly out for Malaysia and Singapore on the weekend. Big deal you say? Yeah it is for me and I will tell you why. First though to be fair...

....this post is about my drug addiction and is of a serious nature If you don't care to read about it then stop now. You have been warned.....

If you linked here from WNA and think you know me then you may be thinking What the..?

Well heres the scoop. I am a recoverying Drug Addict and Alcoholic. Been clean and serene for almost four years baby and thats why this holiday is a big deal for me.

You see four years ago I had nothing and I am not just talking about materialistic crap here either. Sure I didn't have a penny was about to become homeless and hated myself but worse I didn't have anyone. I had no friends, I pushed my family away beacuse they could see I was killing myself and hence used to try and get me off the good stuff I enjoyed so much. Heaven forbid, we couldn't have that. (people caring)

Have no doubt people, addiction is a lonely loveless life.

When eventually faced with death I made a decison to live for my daughters sake and went on a little holiday to rehab.

Four years later, I have lots of pennys, a few real friends but most importantly I have love. Love from my family, love from Crystal (my daughter) , love from my friends, love from Linda, love for myself. It is not having the financial means to take Linda away for Valentines Day, or the fact this is my first overseas trip that makes this a big deal. The fact that I am able to love again is a big deal for me, the fact someone is able to love me for who I am is an even bigger one. The fact that I let them, bigger still. I show this love by taking Linda away for Valentines Day and to say thank you to her for showing me that I am worthy. Thats why this is a big deal for me.

Did none of this makes sense to you?

Well tough

The Armchair Bookers Tackle Wrestlemania

It is nearly time for Wrestlemania Folks and we all know what that means don't we? Thats right folks, the armchair bookers come out in force. All across the IWC so called columnists are telling us how they'd book the event. On forums the smarks are telling everyone how this is the weakest looking Wrestlemania ever, yet they will still order it I am sure. The Internet has really taken alot away from "Sports Entertainment" but thats for another column. Today I'll join the armchair bookers.

This isn't about how'd I'd book the event. I am not a booker and don't know the first thing about booking a major wrestling event unlike most so called wrestling fans on the net who seem to think they could do a better job than anyone actually employed by WWE. If I was booking this show it would be Kurt Angle in a four hour Gauntlet match against the rest of the roster, whereby he would snap everyone's ankles. Anyway this is about what I think will happen not what I would like to happen.

The opening match will be a cruiserweight Match.

1) CW title match: Gregory "I was better off as the hurricane damnit!"Helms vs All the other CW in a battle royal or gauntlet type match. The E has shown they don't mind lumping all the cruisers in one match and I don't expect that to change. We wouldn't want to give the cruisers time to shine in a twenty minute singles match at Mania.

2)WTT Match: Kane "The Big red monster dentist" & Big Show Vs a thrown together tag team

3)IC title Match: Ric "I am too old for this shit" Flair vs Shelton "Momma's Boy" Benjamin

Lot of speculation about who Flair will wrestle. All I know is it won't be Hogan and it Won't be Steamboat. Current stories tend to be going toward this match up

4)Big Tooth Jackass Edge/w HOOO! Vs Mick "I make all dates except if they are in Australia" Foley..Rumoured match became a shore thing when Foley showed up on Raw last night.

5)The Backbreak Kid Shawn Michaels Vs Vince Mcmahon: in a loser leaves or retires or some such thing match. HBK wants a holiday but unlike Undertaker he just cannot disappear for no apparent reason and needs to be written out of the storylines.

6)Undertaker Vs "Bah Gawd" Mark Henry: At this point in the show you shudder and go have a toilet break and make some lunch

7)Womens title: Mickie James vs Trish. Logical really.

8)Interpromotional Money in the Bank ladder Match: Its mania you gotta have an inter promotional match and this gets six guys on the card, RVD vs Carlito vs Chris Masters vs Rey Mysterio vs Matt Hardy vs JBL. That looks horrible on paper but fucked if I kow who to put in the match, thats why i am not a booker

9)US title Match: Booker "I need to get rid of the five time crap but can't think of a new catchphrase"T vs Chris Benoit vs Orlando "I don't like men! Its a storyline"Jordan

10) Kurt "I won an Olympic medal with a broken freaken Neck"Angle Vs Dorkboy Randy Orton

This will be match of the night because Angle is the second coming of Christ. I shit you not.

11)HHH vs John Cena. I will resist commenting on this one because even though I have held my opinion on both of these guys for a long time I don't want to be seen as jumping on some sort of bandwagon type thingy.

I did no spell check on this because I am at work. So if there are errors and they upset you, well thats too bad

The Introduction

Yes I know. I should of done this post first. What you gonna do? Does anyone read these things anyway?

Okay so I called this The Sunday Sermon because when I created it on Saturday I planned to write once a week. You guessed it . On a sunday. Then I realise how much I missed blogging so I'll probably write in here most days.

So what can you expect out of The Sunday Sermon. Well lots of things. Here is what you are likely to see.

*Political diatribes
*random wrestling stuff
*stuff about my journey in recovery
*the odd poem
*opinion on current affairs
*nude pics of my wife

Alright so I may of lied about that last one but it got your attention didn't it?

So that will do for the introduction. As you can see from the list this will be a pretty random type blog. My brain spits out some weird shit from time to time so I apologise in advance for that.

For God's sake its a cartoon!

Muslims around the world have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have absolutely no sense of humour.

I am sure you have all seen the news reports of the protests. The burning of the Danish embassy and all the other stupid behaviour going on over this cartoon. Using my old mate Google I managed to track down and view the offending cartoon. I found it amusing.

Now I understand the Quran rattles on about Mohammed being next to God and his likeness should not be reprodiced blah blah but seriously come on! I don't think non-muslims live by these rules and if they want to doodle a picture of a The Prophet wearing a bomb for a turban and becrying that "we have run out of virgins" then who are these fanatics to stop them?

Seriously folks how many of these people would of seen the thing anyway? It took me a while to find it on the net. Its here by the way http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11097877/ complete with a "may be offensive" warning which made me laugh.

People make fun of my God all the time. Jesus is the butt of millions of jokes and do you hear us Christians ordering newspapers to not run this stuff? No off course not. Now I am not trying to be inflammatory here (or maybe I am) but seriously these people need to lighten up a bit. Its a cartoon you idiots! You have shown the world how pathetic you muslim fanatics can be and given xenophobes another reason to fear and hate you. Just because the country you might live in isn't free and you envy those that are it is no excuse for the absurd response to this cartoon. Its a cartoon! Get over it, get off your high horse and go learn how to oppress women farther or make better bombs or something!

Sheesh! all this over a freaking cartoon

Bird Flu:The Pandemic we need?

First it was SARS to scare us now the pharmaceutical companies have a new virus to help them sell their anti virals. Bird Flu, more specifically the H5N1 strain of avian influenza. Since there are many flu viruses that come from birds it is a bit of a misnomer to call it The Bird Flu.

This one has the scientific community a bit worried as it has kiiled 75% of the humans unfortunate enough to get infected by it. Their big concern is the virus will mutate and be able to spread human to human. Now, I am not a scientist but something bugs me about all this. Everyone is frantically racing to mass produce a vaccine for this strain but if it needs to mutate to spread from human to human then wouldn't it then be a new strain? A strain against which the newly created vaccine will not work?

From what I understand about viruses it is not in their interest to kill their hosts. The host dies, they die so wouldn't it be likely that the virus when it mutates would do so into a strain that is less likely to kill its intended host.

Personally I hope it mutates and stays just as deadly. The world is overcrowded and we could do with losing a significant percentage of the population. Would losing five to ten per cent of the population be such a bad thing for old mother earth? That is a lot less mouths to feed, a lot less people consuming limited resources.

We are after all a burden on this planet. The ecosystem that we try so deperately to control (and destroy in the process) just may well take care of us and wipe a few million of us out for the sake of everyone. One can pray.
